Biosolids Disposal with a Signed Agreement and a Manifest on Every Load
Biosolids Disposal, Tracked from Pickup to Drop-Off
American Bioclean accepts biosolids for disposal at our DEP-permitted facility at 495 S. SR 415 in New Smyrna Beach, from facilities that have a signed agreement with us on file. About 80 facilities already do.
Biosolids are regulated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection more closely than most domestic waste, because they carry a higher concentration of bacteria. Every load is tracked from the facility that produced it to the place it was received, on a signed hauling manifest. We keep our end of that simple.
Quick Facts
- Accepted from: Facilities with a signed agreement on file
- The agreement: One page, signed by the facility's operator or manager
- Already on file: About 80 facilities
- Every load: Tracked on a signed hauling manifest, pickup to drop-off
- Regulated by: Florida DEP
- Our record: Zero violations since 2000
- Before the first load: Call (386) 304-1870
How It Works
- The facility calls us. Tell us who you are, what the facility is and who will be hauling for you.
- The operator or manager signs a one-page agreement. That is the whole of the paperwork on your side.
- Your hauler picks up with a signed hauling manifest, as the DEP requires for every load.
- The load is received here, and the drop-off is recorded on the same manifest — closing the record from pickup to final destination.
Once the agreement is on file, loads from that facility can keep coming. The agreement is signed once; the manifest does its job on every load.
Why the Tracking Is This Detailed
Biosolids carry a higher concentration of bacteria than septage or grease trap waste, so the DEP wants to know exactly where every load went: who produced it, who hauled it and who received it. That is what ‘cradle to grave’ means in practice, and it protects everyone in the chain.
It also means the facility you send biosolids to becomes part of your own record. Ours has had no violations since 2000, under licenses from the Florida DEP and the Volusia County Health Department.
Who Sends Us Biosolids
Biosolids come from facilities that run their own treatment systems, such as:
- Schools and universities — American Bioclean takes the grease trap, septic and biosolids waste for Volusia County Schools, under an annual contract that has been in place for years
- Municipalities and utility districts running small treatment plants
- HOA communities with their own community systems
- Hotels and resorts and other properties not on sewer
Facilities in any county are welcome!
For Haulers
If you haul biosolids, the call to make before your first load here is about the facility, not about you: we need to know the facility you are hauling for has a signed agreement on file. If it does not yet, the operator or manager can sign one quickly, and you are clear to bring the load.
Biosolids are received at the same 150-acre site as our other domestic waste, with three dumping lanes and 100,000 gallons of permitted storage.
